What happens if a cop catches you speeding but follows you and doesn't give you a ticket can he do anything?

okay well i was driving home tonight and i was stopped at a stop light. well when it turned green i went off pretty fast but nothing faster than the speed limit. But i kept going and a car had pulled up behind me and was on my . well i just sped up and being the idiot i am i went over the speed limit and the car just persisted, so i went a bit faster and before i know it i was going 50 mph, well at that point the person who was riding with me told me it was a cop and the second he said that the cop got over to the other lane and i slowed way down. but he continued and i turned to go home on the street but i wanted to go a different way so i turned into a little living area that i didnt know and got a bit lost and before i knew he was following me but i found my way back out to the main road and he followed me for just a little bit after that, im just curious as if i can still e fined in some way or if he just let me go?
